At Nieman: In Canada & N.Z., news agencies struggle with the co-op model

Co-op agencies thrived in the 20th century as a way for small newspapers in isolated markets to carry national news. But the Canadian Press has restructured itself as a private entity and the New Zealand Press Association will likely close next month.
